The Evolution of BLMC
The formation of the Bermuda Land Management Corporation (BLMC) in 2024 marks a significant milestone in Bermuda’s development landscape. This new entity brings together the strengths and expertise of two key organizations: the West End Development Corporation (WEDCO) and the Bermuda Land Development Company (BLDC), combining their shared vision for sustainable growth and management of Bermuda’s land and maritime assets.
Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. - Helen Keller
WEDCO, established in 1982, was instrumental in transforming Bermuda’s historic Dockyard from a former naval base into a thriving hub of tourism and commerce. Over the years, Dockyard became a cornerstone of Bermuda’s economy, offering visitors a mix of history, culture, and entertainment, all while supporting local businesses and artisans.
BLDC, created in 1996, focused on the management and development of former military lands elsewhere in Bermuda. With a focus on sustainable development, BLDC worked to unlock the potential of these lands for residential, commercial, and community purposes, playing a critical role in Bermuda’s growth outside of the Dockyard area.
In 2024, WEDCO and BLDC joined forces to form BLMC, combining their expertise, resources, and visions under one unified organization. This collaboration allows for a more cohesive approach to managing Bermuda’s critical assets, from the bustling Dockyard to strategically important land across the island. By bringing together the legacy of both organizations, BLMC is positioned to lead Bermuda into a future of responsible development, tourism, and community engagement, while continuing to honor the island’s heritage.
The creation of BLMC symbolizes more than just the unification of two entities; it represents a renewed commitment to preserving Bermuda’s natural and historical treasures, while fostering innovation and growth for future generations.
